In an interview with /Film at the Television Critics Association, Kinberg said fans can expect Deadpool 2 to feature commentary on "anything that's happening in movies today especially in superhero movies." He also said the the sheer quantity of comic book films and their sequels "is definitely something we'll play around with."

With regard to who will star as Cable, Kinberg dashed hopes of Stephen Lang assuming the role, saying the part has yet to be cast. While Lang has made it clear he'd like to play Cable, his commitment to the Avatar sequels may conflict with him taking on the role.

The X-Men producer also spoke to the status of Fox's Gambit movie, saying that a film like this needs "a very special and unique tone" and requires "a little while to find that tone." Kinberg cited Deadpool as a prime example, noting it took ten years to get that film made. While he hopes Gambit won't require an entire decade of development time, he stressed the fact that "it takes a little honing to get that tone and that voice exactly right."
